Historic First: Rashtrapati Bhavan to Host Wedding Ceremony

In a groundbreaking first, Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India, is set to host a wedding ceremony on February 12, 2025. This unique event will take place at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex within the presidential residence. The wedding of RPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta and fellow Assistant Commandant Avnish Kumar has been personally approved by President Droupadi Murmu.

President Murmu was highly impressed by Gupta's dedication and hard work in service, which led to this extraordinary decision. Gupta, currently serving as a Personal Security Officer (PSO) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, has been recognized for her outstanding conduct and commitment. Her fiancé, Avnish Kumar, is posted in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceremony is expected to be an intimate affair, with only close family and friends in attendance. Due to the significance of the venue, all guests will undergo rigorous security screening. This event marks a significant milestone in the history of Rashtrapati Bhavan, blending personal celebrations with national importance.

Poonam Gupta, originally from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, has had a remarkable career. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, a Master's in English Literature, and a B.Ed from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. In 2018, she secured the 81st rank in the UPSC CAPF exam and has served in challenging environments, including Naxal-affected areas of Bihar. Gupta also led the CRPF's all-women contingent during the 74th Republic Day Parade.

Active on social media, Gupta frequently shares her experiences and insights, inspiring many, especially women, to pursue their goals. Her Instagram account is filled with pictures in her CRPF uniform and updates about various campaigns she leads.

The wedding news has sparked mixed reactions. Many people have expressed happiness and support for President Murmu's decision, calling it a progressive and heartwarming gesture that recognizes the dedication of CRPF officers. However, some have raised concerns about holding a personal event at such a significant national venue.

This event not only celebrates the union of two dedicated officers but also highlights the evolving traditions of India's highest office. It symbolizes a step forward in recognizing the contributions of individuals serving at Rashtrapati Bhavan and showcases the blend of personal and national significance.

As preparations for the ceremony are underway, the anticipation continues to grow. This historic event will undoubtedly be remembered as a milestone in the history of Rashtrapati Bhavan and a testament to the dedication and hard work of Poonam Gupta and Avnish Kumar.
